mary mark Mary Towers Weese  mary mark

Mary has been with Mark of the Potter since 1991, in a number of capacities, but mostly as a potter. She holds a BFA from Wesleyan College, and before she was a potter, she was a needlepoint designer and shopowner in Cashiers, North Carolina.

Mary has worked at the wheel for many years, but now she's  "morphed" into a completely different discipline - hand built pottery. It's all still very functional, but, according to Mary, much more liberating and suited to her "froufrou" style.

Mary and her husband, Larry, two doggies and a kitty, live outside of Clarkesville in a home they built in the woods. When she's not making pots, Mary loves hanging out with the kids and grandkids, serving up comfort food at the Clarkesville Soup Kitchen, and just enjoying being in the North Georgia Mountains.

The images here are snapshots to give you an idea of the style and some of the items that Mary typically does.  They do not necessarily represent what we currently have in stock.  There may be a special order or two mixed in here as well.
So it is important to remember that the inventory is always changing.

New work comes out of the kiln every four weeks or so depending on the current firing schedule.

All of our pottery is food safe using only lead-free glazes and clays.  Microwave safe and most are oven safe too.  They can be washed in the dishwasher or as some customers prefer, hand washed.

Thanks to all of Mary's fans and to the friends, neighbors and visitors locally and from around the world.  Mark of the Potter would not be the same without you!
